Does Belmont need a new rink? See for yourself!

As you probably know, Belmont voters are being asked to approve a debt exclusion to raise money for reconstruction of the Town’s municipal skating rink, which has reached the end of its useful life and is no longer operational. (That would be Question #1 on the ballot for the April 4 town election.)

Whether to fund it is a big question and, as with the recent campaign to fund reconstruction of our Town Library, it really helps to actually lay eyes on these buildings and absorb the reality of what’s going on and why Band-Aid fixes won’t suffice.

You can do that this weekend and next. The Yes for the Rink campaign (Yes4Rink.com) is hosting tours of the Skip Viglorolo Rink this weekend and next. Tours are taking place:

  • Today (Sat. March 4) between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM
  • Tomorrow (Sunday March 5) between 9:30 and 11:30 AM.
  • Saturday March 11 between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM
  • Sunday March 12 between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM

If you’re undecided on the rink or thinking “Why do they have to rebuild it? Can’t they just patch it up?” You should take advantage of these tours to get your questions answered. As was the case with the Library, I think you’ll agree that the building is beyond Band Aids and needs to be replaced.
