Register Now: Apple Run Run 5K | 2K | Couch-to-5K

Hey Blogging Belmont readers. I know our lives have been upended by COVID and so many traditions have fallen by the wayside in recent months. That’s why I’m happy to announce that one important Belmont tradition: the Apple Run, will be taking place this October…albeit in a COVID-friendly “virtual” format.

Registration for our second annual Apple Run is now open. You can use this link to register. This year’s virtual event will run from Sunday, October 2nd through Monday, October 12, 2020.

Belmont’s 2020 Apple (Virtual) Run

How this works…

Due to State mandated restrictions on large gatherings, and after consultation with Belmont’s Health Department, the Foundation for Belmont Education determined to hold a virtual event, with runners taking on our 5K or 2K courses (or both) during a 10 day window. Unlike past years, there will be no in-person registration or race-day number pick-up. Participants will need to register prior to- or during the 10 day race window. Race packets for all registered runners will be delivered by hand or mail prior to the start of the virtual race on October 2nd, 2020.

Races must be “run” during the window that opens on October 2nd and closes at the end of the day on October 12th. Participants who complete the courses must submit a GPS file or link from Garmin, Strava or other fitness trackers for verification.

  • Participants who wish to be eligible for prizes must run the Apple Run 5K or 2K routes during that window.
  • Participants who do not wish to be considered for a prize can run any 5K or 2K route during that period.
  • The 5K course can be found here and the 2K course can be found here.  To submit your times and or photo click here.

The FBE will place signs at the start/finish line of the courses as well as the standard course markers. Further, we plan to have a finish line and photo area set up at the track to help support running the race on your own time.

The FBE urges participants to follow all rules for social distancing and to be aware of street traffic when running the course. You can read more about how the 2020 Apple (Virtual) Run will work over at the Foundation for Belmont Education website.

Register early to make sure you receive an Apple Run shirt and, for the first 200 registrants, an Apple Run neck gaiter. Use the button below to register.

Couch to 5K Program

This year again we’re offering our 8 week “Couch to 5K” training program for runners of all abilities. This year’s C25K will be led by our very own FBE Apple Run Couch-to-5K coach Scot DeDeo. For the past two years, this program has been paired with the race for an additional fee. This year, we invite runners to join in the C25K training program at no additional cost.

The program consists of:

  • 8-week training plans: beginner and moderate
  • Weekly training letters to keep you inspired
  • Weekly challenges to keep you motivated

The full training article and links to the training plans can be found HERE.  In addition, workouts will be posted to the FBE Facebook page each week along with a training article to help coach runners to a successful 5K run.

As in past years, the C25K program will be led by Scot DeDeo, our race co-director. Scot is an ultra marathoner who has completed more than 180 events. In addition to the above training plans and training letters, Scot is available to answer your questions, build your confidence, and help get you into shape for our run.

For additional details or questions, please contact Scot at racedirector@fbe-belmont.org.

The FBE Apple 5K and 2K races celebrate education in Belmont. The 5K run passes by four of Belmont’s schools (Burbank, Chenery, Wellington, and the High School) and recognizes Belmont’s commitment to educating its young.
