Two reminders: hopefully you noticed the big signs posted on major thoroughfares in town reminding you that today is *ahem* election day in town. Now I know, I know: nobody on the ballot is running opposed (including yours truly, who is running for a one year School Committee post). But it is still important to get out there and excercise your right to vote — set an example for the kids, etc. etc. There is also a ballot question regarding a waiver allowing the town to grant a club license to the VFW hall to sell liquor. So please: if you didn’t hit the polls on the way out of town this morning, make sure to swing by your local polling place on the way home!!
Next: As I blogged last week, there’s a super important Board of Selectmen meeting tonight to discuss a debt exclusion for the Wellington Elementary project. As you know: the state has awarded Belmont a $12.4 grant to help defer the cost of construction of the new school, but Belmont needs to pass a debt exclusion (raising money for the balance of the project) in order to qualify for the state funds. Tonight, starting at around 8:00 PM, the Selectmen will hear from the Wellington Building Committee, supporters of the project and, possibly, some detractors too. We need all hands on deck to show support for the construction of a new Wellington Elementary. As Jean-Luc would say… “make it so.”
