As you probably know, Belmont voters are being asked to approve a debt exclusion to raise money for reconstruction of the Townโs municipal skating rink, which has reached the end of its useful life and is no longer operational. (That would be Question #1 on the ballot for the April 4 town election.)
Whether to fund it is a big question and, as with the recent campaign to fund reconstruction of our Town Library, it really helps to actually lay eyes on these buildings and absorb the reality of whatโs going on and why Band-Aid fixes wonโt suffice.
You can do that this weekend and next. The Yes for the Rink campaign (Yes4Rink.com) is hosting tours of the Skip Viglorolo Rink this weekend and next. Tours are taking place:
- Today (Sat. March 4) between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM
- Tomorrow (Sunday March 5) between 9:30 and 11:30 AM.
- Saturday March 11 between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM
- Sunday March 12 between 10:30 AM and 12:30 PM
If youโre undecided on the rink or thinking โWhy do they have to rebuild it? Canโt they just patch it up?โ You should take advantage of these tours to get your questions answered. As was the case with the Library, I think youโll agree that the building is beyond Band Aids and needs to be replaced.
