Earth Day Prep: here are Two Belmont Climate Events to Check Out in April!

The Belmont Energy Committee is hosting a series of forums where residents can learn the most important steps YOU and the Town can take to prevent global warming and climate change. Please join us!

They are:

FORUM: To Stop Climate Change, Take Actions That Matter The Most

When: Wednesday April 3, 7:00pm – 8:30pm
Where: Community Room, Chenery Middle School

Aaron Jette of the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center will speak about how transportation contributes to climate change and what changes can be expected in the coming years.

Cammy Peterson, Director of Clean Energy at the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission will talk about integrating clean energy practices into their planning work.

The Belmont Energy Committee will explain ongoing action steps in the Belmont Climate Action Roadmap toward achieving Belmont’s goal of reducing carbon emissions by 80% by 2050.

FORUM: To Stop Climate Change, Take Actions That Matter The Most (Part 2)

Wednesday April 10, 7:00pm – 8:30pm
Belmont Art Gallery, Homer Building, 19 Moore Street

At this event, you will hear from George Bachrach, former state Senator and president of the Environmental League of Massachusetts. George will talk about creating diverse alliances and building the power of the environmental community.

Also, Peter Fox-Penner, director of Boston University’s Institute for Sustainable Energy will discuss ways to help the electric power industry shift from centralized, fossil-based production to a more distributed set of carbon-free networks.

Finally, Belmont Light’s general manager, Chris Roy and the Belmont Energy Committee detail the path toward achieving Belmont’s goal of reducing carbon emissions by 80% by 2050.
