Belmont’s Fall Classic: the FBE Apple Run (fka Dan Scharfman Memorial) is this Sunday. Register online Wednesday evening or register on-site on Sunday morning!
Hey Blogging Belmont readers! Just a note that Belmont’s Fall Classic, the Foundation for Belmont Education Apple Run (formerly the Dan Scharfman Memorial Run) is this Sunday, October 6. Online registration is closing tomorrow (Wednesday) evening – so register now online or be prepared to come early and register Sunday morning.
This amazing event includes as 5K and a 1 mile run, with proceeds going to benefit the Belmont Education Foundation’s (FBE) Innovative Teaching Initiative. Since our first event, in 2012, the race has raised more than $150,000 for Belmont’s public schools.
We have a great day planned for the whole family, including music provided by DJ Paul Madden, a pre-race stretch and warm up hosted by Donna Ognibene of Body Trio, Belmont’s premiere personal training studio, food, drinks, prizes and more.
New 5K Route
After six years with the same course, the 5K race got an update in 2019 to accomodate the construction site at Belmont High School. The race starts at 9:30 sharp and follows a looping course out along School Street to Fairview and then back via Payson reservoir, past Chenery Middle School, back to School Street on Goden and then down Cottage street to the finish line at Harris field. This is a scenic course that takes you by four of the town’s public schools: Belmont High, Burbank elementary, Chenery Middle School and Wellington Elementary.
A 1 Mile, Off Road Run
The traditional 2K event has been replaced with a fun, 1 mile run that is great for kids and families. To accomodate the BHS construction, the 2K event was shortened to a 1 mile route starting at Harris field and running around the track and then out to- and back from the Concord Ave playing fields.
This is a fun and safe course that will provide a good challenge for runners old and young!
