State, town need more time on Wellington

A last minute effort to hammer out a funding agreement for construction of a new Wellington Elementary in time for this April’s town-wide election fell through today, making a special election to approve a debt exclusion for the school almost certain.

According to a note to members of Together For Wellington, a meeting between Mass School Building Authority and Belmont’s three Selectmen, Rep. Will Brownsberger and the Wellington Builiding Committee was productive, but did not result in a final dollar amount for the project. The two groups appear close to agreement on a final number within the next week or so. The Wellington Building Committee wants to be on the agenda of the Board of Selectmen’s March 16th, at which time (presumably) they will request the debt exclusion
